Granted a full scholarship, Shawn graduated in 2016 with a Masters in Music in Piano Performance from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester, UK, where he studied with Helen Krizos. In the same year, he also became a Fellow of the Royal Schools of Music (FRSM) in piano performance.
Shawn has given concerts at the RNCM Concert Hall, The Carole Nash Recital Room, Emmanuel Church in Didsbury, and St. Ann’s Church in Manchester. He has also had lessons and masterclasses with renowned pianists Philippe Cassard, Michel Beroff, Nelson Goerner, Stefano Fuzzi and Svetozar Ivanov. 


Prior to obtaining his Masters, Shawn studied music at King’s College London, where he graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor in Music with First Class Honours. Emerging as the top music student of his undergraduate cohort, Shawn was also awarded the Purcell Prize. While at King’s, Shawn went to the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) for piano lessons, where he studied with Diana Ketler and Florian Mitrea. In 2014, Shawn participated in Music Fest Perugia, Italy, where he had the privilege of performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2 (First Movement) with the Alicante Symphony Orchestra.
Before commencing his music studies in the UK, Shawn studied piano with Steinway Artist Benjamin Loh. Under his guidance, Shawn received his Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music (LRSM) in 2005, as well as obtained Honourable Mention in the 2007 Singapore National Piano and Violin Competition, Piano Senior Category.


Besides solo playing, Shawn also enjoys playing chamber music. He is an alumnus of Raffles Institution.
